Return to the Dark Side of the Moon (subtitulado: A Tribute to Pink Floyd) es un álbum tributo organizado por Billy Sherwood, y publicado en 2006 en Purple Pyramid. Es una recreación de The Dark Side of the Moon de Pink Floyd, y una secuela de Back Against the Wall de Sherwood, a su vez una recreación de The Wall de Pink Floyd. Return to the Dark Side of the Moon, además, incluye una pieza original compuesta por Sherwood (y grabada con Tony Kaye y Robby Krieger) en el estilo del álbum original.

Ummagu

The Great Gig in the Sky».

The division bell

In 1973 one of the greatest bands in history, Pink Floyd, published one of their masterpieces, The Dark Side Of The Moon. They inaugurated the era of technology, symbolized by the cover prism and the detailed production of Alan Parsons. With songs like Time and Money, they became recognizable landmarks with a versatility that included sax solos and colored vocalists. The band wanted to sound commercial and competitive in the midst of 70’s traversal, with David Gilmour on lead guitar and vocals, Nick Mason on drums and audio effects, Richard Wright on keyboards, vocals and VCS3 and Roger Waters on bass, vocals and VCS3.

Some rumors say that Roger Waters was obsessed with the movie The Wizard of Oz by Victor Fleming (1939) and stayed hours in the studio so that the whole album would match the sequences of the film.

Time is one of the star tracks, with a start with sounds of clocks and bells and a drum solo by Nick Mason. Great gig in the sky is the fifth cut, composed by keyboardist Richard Wright, is a great ballad, one of the best that Wright has done. Money is one of the best known themes of the group, a masterpiece of Roger Waters; less complex than other compositions, more rhythmic. It begins with the noise of cash registers opening and closing, with the sound of money inside. It is about the growing consumerism in the 70’s era.

Pink floyd speak to me / breathe

There are albums of great success, and then at the top, the ‘Dark Side of the Moon’. This Pink Floyd album has sold more than 15 million copies in the U.S. since its release on March 1, 1973 and more than 45 million units worldwide. A true classic rock colossus, the album earned its creators, bassist/vocalist Roger Waters, guitarist/vocalist David Gilmour, keyboardist/vocalist Rick Wright and drummer Nick Mason, a mind-blowing 937 weeks on the Billboard 200.

In addition to its huge commercial success, Dark Side of the Moon was also a career-defining artistic achievement for the British quartet, an accomplishment that marked Pink Floyd’s transition from a little-known experimental progressive rock band to being primarily loved by college students and rockers around the world.

From the beginning, the band intended to call their new album Dark Side of the Moon, a reference to madness, but when Medicine Head released an album of the same name in 1972, it caused Floyd to reevaluate the name of their project, which they planned to call Eclipse.
